Hazelton Avenue GRANT THOMPSON
Stockton, California 92501 MARGUARETTESCHMIDT
Attn: Diane Hinson
Dear Ms Hinson:
On August 2 , 1989 Escalon Unified School District removed a
10 , 000 gallon fiberglass diesel fuel tank which had been
installed underground at our maintenance facility located at 1176
N. Stanislaus Street in Escalon, California. At the time of
removal soil tests were taken to determine if contamination was
present . We now have the results from these tests which indicate
that there was some contamination at the excavation site .
I have contacted Carol Oz of the San Joaquin County Public
Health' Service for assistance in what measures should be taken to
mitigate our site . She has explained my options to me and I have
decided, at this time , to opt for the San Joaquin County Pilot
Program, since this will allow the site to be declared a "clean
site" after we take the appropriate steps to propose a clean up
strategy and follow through with the approved steps of that
plan. At her suggestion I am writing this to you to let you know
of our plans regarding this matter.
As I understand it, my next step will be to secure the
services of a consultant and submit a proposed plan of action to
your department for approval , along with the necessary permit
applications .
Please contact me if you have any concerns about our
intensions as stated above , or if you can offer any further help
or information which might assist me in getting this matter
resolved.
Sincerely,
Michael Carter
Administrative Assistant
copies : Correspondence File
Fuel Tank Removal File
Phil Schneider, Indust .
