the on-site spill response- team.
B. Non-Reportable Spill
A non-reportable hazardous materials spill is one that:
1.Does not escape to the environment.
2.Will not pose a health risk to individuals in the immediate area.
3.Can be controlled and contained with on-hand spill response materials
appropriate to the task.
4.The properties of the material are well known to the person(s) to be controlling
and containing the spill.
5.The person(s) controlling and containing the spill have had appropriate training.
6.To control and contain the spill requires less than 1/2 hour for two people.
7.Record the event.
In the event of a small, non-reportable (but still recordable) spill:
1.Contain and control the spill with available appropriate spill response
equipment.
2.Manage spill containment materials as hazardous waste.
3.Record the event.
Put pans under leaks to collect fluids for proper recycling or disposal. Keeping leaks off
the ground reduces the potential for storm water contamination and reduces cleanup
time and costs. If the vehicle or equipment is to be stored outdoors, oil and other fluids
should be drained prior to storage.
C.Hazardous Materials Storage
1.Hazardous materials should be placed in a designated area.
2.7he designated storage area should be covered with a roof.
3.Designated areas should be paved, free of cracks and gaps, and liquid tight in
order to contain leaks and spills.
4.Liquid materials should be secondarily contained to hold 10 percent of the
volume of all the containers or 110 percent of the volume of the largest container,
whichever is greater.
5.Drums stored in an area where unauthorized persons may gain access must be
secured to prevent accidental spillage, pilferage, or any unauthorized use.
6.Employees trained in emergency spill cleanup procedures should be present
when dangerous waste, liquid chemicals, or other wastes are loaded or
unloaded.
