PRACTICES TO REDUCE POLLUTANTS
Most operations are interior and liquid materials double contained to prevent any spills from
leaving the facility. Spill kits are located near hazardous material waste storage areas and shop
exits to contain any spills that breach double containment. Outside and covered operations
are controlled with BMPs.
ASSESSMENT OF POLLUTION SOURCES
Principally petroleum product waste as cutting oils are the hazardous waste generated. Paint
sludges are generated as well, but these are not hazardous waste because latex paint is used.
Fork lift diesel fueling is done in the hazardous waste and material covered storage area, and
BMPs are in place prevent discharge to storm water. Metal dust and chips from interior
operations is collected and put in a scrap bin. Vehicle maintenance is performed in the machine
shop.
No significant potential pollutants are emitted stacks, thus the roof drains should discharge no
significant pollutants. BMPs are in place to control spills, and capture liquids from operations,
and hazardous materials storage activities.
MATERIALS INVENTORY
Materials include: 1) roofed hazardous materials and waste storage of: 300 gallons waste oil and
1000 gallons of virgin diesel fuel, 2) outside storage of ten 300 gallon double contained totes of
paint, 3) interior storage of: (machine shop) 1-55 gallon hydraulic fluid drum, 1-55 gallon
transmission fluid, 5-55 gallon virgin oil drums, 3-5 gallon oil containers, aerosols in a
flammable cabinet, and six batteries, (shop building) 1-55 gallon drum of oil, 4) outside parking
of nine fork lifts, one semi truck and two pick up trucks, and 5) interior parts painting
operations. No solvents, underground tanks or fueling equipment facilities are present.
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
On going house keeping activities and preventative maintenance are done to ensure safe and clean
operations. These activities include splash and spill prevention, JIT (Just in Time) delivery of
hazardous materials to keep inventories at a minimum, and daily house keeping inspections.
SPILL PREVENTION AND RESPONSE PROCEDURES
Prevention
Double containment is in place to prevent spills. Hazardous materials are either interior, or are
covered and double contained. Spills kits are in place where liquids are handled, stored or
transferred.
