Box 388
Stockton, California 95201
FORMER ALEGRE TRUCK MAINTENANCE FACILITY, LODI, CALIFORNIA
Dear Mr. Irey and Ms. Foley:
It was a pleasure meeting with you at the subject site
on January 16, 1997 and thank you for subsequently
introducing Mr. Hume and myself to Mr. Alegre and Mr. Fowler
at Alegre's new facility. The purpose of this letter is to
commemorate the results of our discussions concerning the
role that the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC)
will be taking in the oversight of the investigation and
remediation of the waste pit at the former Alegre
Maintenance Facility.
It is our understanding that the County will perform
the oversight of the initial investigation activities. DTSC
will, however, review the investigation work plan and
provide comments to the County. Should the contamination
Drove to be Drimarilv Detroleum hydrocarbons and limited to
soils, DTSC will continue to defer to the county for on-site
oversight but will review and provide the County with
comments on cleanup plans, verification sampling plans, and
the like. Following the completion of cleanup, DTSC will
review the verification data and issue a determination of
"no further action" if warranted.
If the contamination at the site is more problematic,
such as contamination of the groundwater or the presence of
significant levels of pesticides, DTSC would then assume a
lead role in the remedial actions at the site with the close
cooperation and assistance of the county.
DA.dm
DA10W.017 h
I
nm.ee.n.sxwavpw
