STATE OF CALIFORNIA J GEORGE DEUKMEJIAN, Gorom.,
AIR RESOURVORD1102 O STREET n"P.O. eOX 2815 /-fSACRAMENTO, CA 9S" '/Y J 0
4F,Gt r/,JQ1)1 to
AZ
April 4, 1985
Dear Sir or Madam:
Lists of Compounds tb be Considered Under AB 1807
A little over a year ago on January 26 , 1984 , the Air
Resources Board held a public meeting to discuss its toxic air
contaminant program established pursuant to Assembly Bill 1807
(AB 1807 ) . Included in the discussions at that meeting were the
prioritization scheme developed by the ARB staff and the list of
compounds prioritized under that scheme . We have always viewed
the list of compounds as dynamic , subject to revision based upon
new information as it becomes available . Over the past year , the
ranking of some of the compounds on the list has been revised
based on our review of available information.- This letter is to
advise you of these changes .
You may recall that the criteria used in the
establishment of the prioritization scheme , taken directly from
AB 1807, are: risk of harm to public health, amount or potential
amount of emissions, manner of usage of the substance,
persistence in the atmosphere, and ambient concentrations in
California. Level 1 compounds are those judged to be of concern
in California based on these criteria and for which sufficient
information exists to pursue listing as a toxic air contaminant .
Level' 2 compounds are those compounds which the ARB considers to
be of potential concern in California . Level 1 compounds are
further disaggregated into level lA and level 1B. Level lA
compounds are those substances for which no significant
additional information is outstanding . Level 1B compounds have
either significant information or studies in progress related to
the toxic air contaminant identification process .
As we have indicated, the compounds have been under
review and consequently the rankings have been updated and
revised. Attached for your information are two new lists of
compounds . List A contains all the compounds currently
considered as potential toxic air contaminants (47 in all ) in
