Sierra Chemical Co. . . SOP 917 RO
Waste Management Program
spilled within the containment. The effluent stream is neutralized and recycled to
produce hypochlorite solution.
Pollution control devices consist of secondary containment for the liquid, and a scrubber
system to treat the air prior to discharge to the atmosphere. The scrubber is a packed bed
limestone scrubber operating on the principle of liquid/gas absorption. The air is
contacted with water in contact with limestone to remove any acid mist. Water in the
scrubber is recycled until the end of the bottling run or day whichever comes first. At
this time the water is pumped from the scrubber through a hard piped system, into the
effluent tank. The scrubber is refilled with fresh water, ready for the next run.
Limestone is replaced as necessary.
9
