Weber Ave. <br /> Courthouse, Room 610A <br /> Stockton, CA 95202 <br /> Re: Toxic Fume Release in the Tin Plate area and Evacuation of Indy Electronics Plant <br /> This report is per request of the San Joaquin Environmental Health Services and the San <br /> Joaquin office of Emergency Services. <br /> At approx. 7:OOPM on Friday 1/13/95 the plant was evacuated due to a small toxic fume release <br /> in the Tin Plate area. All employees were evacuated out east of the plant so as to remain up <br /> wind from the Plating area. <br /> and were doing an Evaluation, <br /> Stripping solder coating from some Steel Pins. The Mixture they were using was 3 gallons of <br /> 25% Nitric Acid and 3lbs of Tin lead and Iron. This Evaluation was being done inside a 50 gallon <br /> tank to lower the chance of any fumes escaping or material splattering. <br /> The combination of the chemicals and the steel pins created Nitrogen Dioxide Gas, some of this <br /> did escape into the room above the tank ventilatio.&hen this happened V0and j&tarted <br /> adding water to thexture to lower the reaction. ut on a respirator so as not to be <br /> exposed to the gas. went to our security dept, and reported the incident. <br /> Mr. Ted Walker, Facilities manager was called on the phone and the decision was made to <br /> evacuate the plant. Upon evacuation the Tin Plate room was locked so no employees would <br /> enter. <br /> At 7:20pm, 911 was called because of the exposure to the two personnel working in the room <br /> doing the evaluation and two other employees that had entered the room. All Four(4) <br /> employees were evaluated by the Manteca Ambulance Medical personnel. Three em loyees <br /> completely negative. Because he was feeling some irritation in his throat, <br /> munWas transported to Doctors Hospital of Manteca for an eval tion. as given <br /> a chest Xray and a blood sample was taken.. Both were negative. <br /> work. was released to return to <br />
