The
stratification linea shown on the logs represent the approximate
boundary between soil types ; the actual in-situ transition may be
gradual.
5. 2 Soil Properties : The near-surface silty sand material
was very loose to loose in Boring 1 , with standard penetration
resistance , N-values , ranging from 3 to 7 blows per foot in the
upper 7 feet. The silty sand was medium dense to very dense in
Borings 2 and 3 , with N-values ranging from 14 to 32 blows per
foot. Natural moisture content of the material ranged from 5 to
10 percent. A direct shear test indicated an angle of internal
friction of 41 %
A maximum density- optimum moisture determination , ASTM
D1557 , conducted on a near- surface soil sample indicated a
maximum dry density of 118. 3 pounds per cubic foot at an optimum
moisture of 9. 4 percent. In-place density testa at two locations
over the buried pipe indicated relative compactions of 90. 2 and
91. 4 percent at a depth of 1. 0 to 2. 0 feet below existing grade.
. arlitaadninqiotaroUwa.iu.
Fresno Modesto!!
