Dennis Catanyag [EH]
From: Don Merrill [rackmaster@lod i net.net]
Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 5:53 PM
To: Dennis Catanyag [EH]
Subject: Lodi Metal Tech
Dennis,
We noted 5 specific items you wanted addressed and I will do that here.
1. Paint dust in hopper outside paint shed. I had the guys separate
all the items in the hopper and had the paint taken to the hazardous
materials area. My lead man said he was following the instructions
given by Joseph Moreno which were, sift the paint through a screen
shaker. The small particles are to be taken to the Hazardous area and
the stuff that doesn't go through the screen can be put in the trash.
This is what he says he did. I just want to do what is correct.
2.We are on hold for mixing any paint that comes from the wash area
pending our review. I will explain in detail our paint process when I
have a few more details.
3.When Fred Cain was in charge, we tested some of the floor sweepings in
the grinding area and the employees were instructed to put the
sweepings, along with dirt I guess, into special barrels that went to
the Hazardous area. Joseph Moreno instructed them to just put it in the
trash. Do we need to test or just where do we go from here?
4 .We recently had our air quality permit renewed and in that permit we
noted the change from waterfall entrapment of paint particles to dry
filters. We took our MSDS sheets to California Waste for them to review
and received an okay to put the filters with DRY paint in the trash
containers. We passed this information along to Air Quality and they
were satisfied. I'm not sure what else we should have done.
5. Clean up of the floor dry. Let's just say that things are changing
regarding this area at LMT. Some employees are receiving formal notices
regarding this and Bob and I are addressing the issue with each foreman.
While I will address individual instances tomorrow, Bob and I will do a
comprehensive sweep of the entire facility and address every container
we contact. We have a supply on stick ons and will either attach a
sticker with information or simply have the container disposed of. This
review will be done the first of every quarter which is 90 days which
will mean everything will be address for that 90 days. Nothing will be
carried over. If a container is still there and not full, we will empty
it and start again. This will also be part of our storm water review.
We'll just expand it.
Don Merrill
1
