APPENDIX 1 <br /> Emergency Response Procedures <br /> 17 33 41.1 — Rv <br /> H. / C //- 55206 <br /> To fully protect all employees from harm when a hazardous material release occurs, the following <br /> procedures should be followed: <br /> Notification of Release <br /> Employees must follow Standard Safety Rules, which directs all employees to immediately notify their <br /> supervisors upon discovering a hazardous material release to protect themselves from chemical <br /> exposure. Employees can enter the spill area only after the supervisor has assessed the incident and has <br /> determined the spilled material can be cleaned up without risk of chemical exposure. <br /> Site Securitv and Control <br /> Once the supervisor is notified of a hazardous material release, they should immediately secure the <br /> scene to prevent bystanders from possible exposure. Use the public address (PA) system or some other <br /> means of communication if necessary. The supervisor should not enter the spill area until an assessment <br /> of the incident and there is no potential of exposure to employees. Use extreme caution if flammable. <br /> corrosive, or toxic vapors could be present. <br /> Release Assessment <br /> The supervisor should review all shipping documents to detennine the identity of the product released <br /> and should review the Supervisor Assessment Chart for safety directions and physical hazards of the <br /> release product. If in doubt, contact the Chemical Helpline(Option 1) at 800-395-=446. <br /> Emeroency Alerting <br /> If the supervisor determines there is immediate danger to life and health due to exposure of the <br /> hazardous material, the Service Center alerting system for evacuation will be initiated and will contact <br /> the Chemical Help Line at 800-39.5-5446 for emergency response assistance. tinder no circumstances <br /> should the supervisor or any employee attempt to contain the released product if there is a <br /> potential danger to life and health from chemical exposure. <br /> Incidental (Non-Emereenc y) Spills <br /> Alien the supervisor has reviewed all hazards of the released product and the incident has been <br /> determined as a "non-emergency" and there is no potential for exposure, the supervisor can enter the <br /> spilled area to determine incidental dean-up procedures. If in doubt, the supervisor should immediately <br /> contact the Chemical Help Line at 1-800-395-5446. The Chemical Help Line is serviced by 40-Hour <br /> Hazivlat trained professionals that will help you to dcter mine if company personnel should attempt <br /> incidental clean-up and if necessary, what types of personal protective equipment to be used. <br /> OSHA allows conmpany personal to absorb or neutralize an incidental spill only after the Chemical Help <br /> Line has determined there is no chance for fire, explosion or chemical cxpusure to time enmployees.
