KLEINFELDER <br /> If no volatile organic constituents are detected during field screening, the 15-foot deep soil <br /> sample will be submitted to the analytical laboratory and the boring will be terminated. If <br /> volatile constituents are detected then the sample showing the highest reading and a <br /> sample from the depth at which volatile constituents are no longer detected will be <br /> submitted for quantitative analysis. <br /> For the protection of the crew, the organic vapor detector also will be used to measure the <br /> volatile concentrations in the breathing zone prior to and during the collection of the <br /> samples. Total ionizable hydrocarbon readings in excess of 1 ppmv may necessitate <br /> respiratory protection for the affected crew members. This requirement is included in the <br /> complete field health and safety plan developed for the project prior to the start of field <br /> work. <br /> To reduce the potential for cross-contamination, au&ers and associated equipment will be <br /> steam cleaned prior to drilling each boring. Sampling equipment will be cleaned with a <br /> trisodium phosphate wash and rinsed with distilled water prior to collecting each soil <br /> sample. <br /> Soil borings will be closed immediately after collecting and logging the soil samples. <br /> Closure is accomplished by grouting the boring with a cement/bentonite slurry or as <br /> otherwise required. Drill cuttings will be placed in 55-gallon drums and left onsite for <br /> disposal by the owner. If requested, Kleinfelder can coordinate disposal of soil and water <br /> with contractors after chemical analysis results are available. <br /> Task 3: Chemical Analysis <br /> One to two soil samples from each boring will be submitted under chain-of-custody to <br /> California Analytical Laboratory/Enseco in West Sacramento. The samples will be <br /> analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) extractable by GC-FID; TPH purgeable; <br /> and benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene (BTEX) by EPA method 8020. <br /> Task 4: Report of Findings <br /> Upon completion of the field activities and receipt of the analytical results, a report of <br /> findings will be prepared for client and agency review. The report will present our <br /> observations and assessment of the analytical results. Kleinfelder may recommend <br /> additional assessment as warranted. <br /> PROJECT SCHEDULE <br /> Kleinfelder understands the importance of expediting this project. Drilling can be initiated <br /> within one to two weeks of receiving authorization to proceed and receiving SJLHD's <br /> approval of the work plan. The proposed scope of work for the soil assessment will require <br /> approximately 1 day to drill and four weeks to prepare a report after the drilling is <br /> completed assuming normal laboratory turnaround schedule (15 working days). Rush <br /> laboratory turnaround is available for an additional cost. <br /> F12-90-40 <br />
