Box 9200 PERMIT/SERVICES
Stockton, CA 95208
CORRECTION ORDER - NOTICE OF VIOLATION
An annual inspection of your premises was conducted on November
26, 1991 . It was determined during the inspection that the
following violations will have to be corrected:
During the summer it was noted that the storm drains in the
Gondola Yard became plugged with tomato juice. A sample taken
October 10, 1991, from a storm drain in this yard had a BOD
(biochemical oxygen demand) of 19,000 mg/L. and a TSS (total
suspended solids) concentration of 1, 300 mg/L. Stormwater flows
unimpeded to the waters of the state without treatment. It is
a violation of the Municipal Code Section 7-089 . 4 to discharge
anything other than rainwater to the storm sewer (copy
enclosed) . Also enclosed is a Notice of Violation.
This letter shall serve as a Correction Order. Ragu will clean
the storm drains and lines on its property by January 15, 1992,
and shall permanently correct this deficiency by March 15, 1992 .
Your correction plan shall be submitted to Environmental Control
by not later than December 31, 1991 . Failure to comply with
this Order will result in fines and/or civil action.
It was also noted during the inspection that the caustic tank
which stores caustic for the parts cleaning area is not double
contained. In the interest of safety, and as a spill prevention
requirement, we strongly recommend that this be double
contained. In addition to an extremely high pH, it is
reasonable to assume that the caustic used for cleaning machine
parts is highly concentrated with heavy metals and waste oils
and would be unacceptable for discharge to the sanitary sewer.
This must be disposed of properly.
"ST*TCN...CAL:FCPNIA'S SUNRISE -=*CA-''
