0 •
Sampling Repot—P.G&E.,Stockton,GA October,2003
FIELD ACTIVITIES
Geo-Logic's first phase of field work was performed on October 17, 2003. The original piping had
been removed prior to the sampling event. One sample, labeled as P1 (4.5'), was collected from
beneath the product piping at the location of a 45 degree elbow near the tank, at the depth indicated.
A second sample, labeled P2 (4'), was collected from beneath the product piping adjacent to the
building wall. The samples were collected from approximately two feet into native material, which
consisted of a silty sand. Ms. Michelle Le of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department witnessed the sampling. The locations of the sample points are shown on Figure 1. No
evidence of hydrocarbon contamination was observed in any of the samples or in the piping trench or
tank pit excavation.
The samples were collected into the trench bottom. The liners containing the samples were then
capped, labeled, and stored in a cooled ice chest prior to delivery to the laboratory.
On October 24, 2003, Geo-Logic returned to the site to conduct sampling beneath three dispensers.
The dispensers, which consisted of two unleaded gasoline and one diesel dispenser, had been removed.
Three samples, designated as UNL-1 (4'), LJNL-2 (4'), and Diesel (4'), were collected from beneath
the dispensers at the depth indicated.
The samples were collected by driving brass liners directly into bulk material excavated by backhoe.
Ms. Michelle Le of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department witnessed the sampling.
The locations of the sample points are shown on Figure 1, No evidence of hydrocarbon contamination
was observed at any of the sample locations, except for at LJNL 1, where there was a slight odor of
hydrocarbons at about two feet below grade, but no odor at the sample depth.
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
The laboratory analyses for the soil samples were performed by McCampbell Analytical in Pacheco,
California. The samples were accompanied by properly executed Chain of Custody documentation.
Samples PI and P2 from the waste oil tank piping trench were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) by EPA
Method 8020 and 8015 - Modified, TPH as diesel by EPA Method 8015 — Modified, the LUFT 5
metals, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and the fuel oxygenates by EPA Method 8260, and for
PCBs. The two samples from beneath the unleaded gas dispensers were analyzed for TPH as gasoline,
BTEX, and the fuel oxygenates. The sample from beneath the fuel dispenser was analyzed for TPH as
gasoline, BTEX, and TPH as diesel.
2
