Page 2
3. Cleaning the Waste Oil and Hydraulic Oil Tanks: After the gas-freeing
process is completed, the tanks will then be transported to a remote
area in the PG&E service center yard. Using cold cutting equipment,
SOS will cut a large access way in each tank or the tanks will be cut
into 2 pieces using cold cutting equipment. Upon completion of
cutting the tanks open, any sludge or product that remains will be
solidified and placed in drums for disposal as a solid waste.
Residual oil on the surface of the metal will be wiped clean using
rags. The rags will be placed in the drums of solid waste for
disposal.
4. Cleaning the Transformer Oil Tank: After gas-freeing the tank as
described in the specifications. SOS will cut an access way into the
tank, and purge the atmosphere in the tank, to eliminate any harmful
vapors so that safe entry can be accomplished. Upon entry into the
tank, any remaining sludge or oil will be solidified using an
absorbant and placed into drums for disposal. The interior of the
tank will then be mopped down with kerosene to eliminate any FCB
contaminated material from the tank. Mops, rags or any other
equipment used in the tank cleaning will be placed into drums for
disposal. Wipe samples will be taken in the tank to insure
cleanliness. Analytical results of the wipe samples will be
transmitted to PG&E before shipment to a scrapper.
5. Tank Disposal: After the tanks have been cleaned, all tanks and
associated piping will be transported to a scrap metal dealer for
recycling. Documentation will be provided with the final report
listing the destination of the tank and piping.
6. Drum Disposal: Drums of solid waste generated during cleaning of the
waste oil and hydraulic oil tanks will be transported by SOS to
Casmalia Resources in Santa Barbara for landfill burial. Drums of PCB
contaminated waste will be transported by Steve's Trucking to Chem-
Waste Management in Kettleman City for landfill burial.
7. Reporting; A description of the tank disposal activities will be
included in the final report for the entire project. Pictures,
analytical data, a plan showing the location of the wipe samples
taken in transformer oil tank, and documentation of disposal of
all items will be included.
✓ if you approve of the above work plan, pleas authorize by signing and
returning one copy.
