0 0
09 March 1999
AGE -NC Project No. 98-0513
Prior to removal of the USTs, the tanks were triple rinsed by AGE, using a pressure washer and
an alconox solution. The liquid contents of the USTs were removed. Approximately 250 gallons
of rinseate were transported under manifest to Industrial Services Oil Company in Los Angles,
California (State Manifest Document No. 98891618) by Norcal Oil of Turlock, California.
An inspector from the City of Stockton Fire Department was on site to oversee the tank removal
activities. After being removed, the tanks were visually inspected and appeared to be intact, with
no holes or extensive corrosion noted.
Due to limitations of the excavator used to excavate the USTs, a mobile crane was used to lift the
USTs onto waiting transportation vehicles to be delivered for treatment and disposal. The tanks
were subsequently transported to West Coast Equipment Company of Turlock for disposal.
Soil removed to uncover the tank was replaced and compacted back into the UST excavation.
Pea gravel was used to backfill the remaining portion of the UST excavation.
SOIL SAMPLING
Following removal of the tanks, an excavator was used to collect soil samples from 2 feet below
the ends of the former USTs (Figure 2). A total of four soil samples were collected from the base
of the USTs. Three soil samples were collected from the soil stockpile. One soil sample was
collected from the former dispenser area. Each soil sample was collected with a metric soil
sampling hammer, loaded with a pre -cleaned brass sleeve. The ends of the soil -filled brass
sleeves were sealed with a Teflon plastic and plastic end caps were tapped over the ends of each
sample sleeve.
Samples were collected by Precision Enviro-Tech (PET) of Stockton, a State of California
Department of Health Services (DHS) -certified laboratory. The samples were labeled and placed
in a chilled container. The samples were transported under chain -of -custody to PET. The date
and time the soil samples were collected were noted on the chain -of -custody form included with
the attached laboratory report and quality control data.
The soil samples were analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified,
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
