E1 Dorado Street
Stockton, CA 95202
RE: Underground Storage Tank Removal Compaction Requirements
Dear Mr. Coffey:
This is to confirm your telephone conversation of February 3, 1999, with
Mr. Barry Nicholson of my staff regarding compaction requirements for former
Underground Storage Tank (UST) sites located within the Port of Stockton
(Port).
On or about January 5, 1999, four (4) UST's were removed from the Port
at four separate sites. The holes for each of these tanks were backfilled with
clean sandy topsoil and allowed to undergo natural settling.
During the above-referenced telephone conversation, you confirmed that
as long as the Port is in full and total control of these four sites and none is
located in load-bearing and traffic zones, there will not be a need for
independent geotechnical evaluation for compaction of the soil at these sites. In
addition, we discussed that the Port does not currently anticipate any building
andlor weight-bearing activities on any of these sites. Moreover, the Port
mentioned to you that, as a special district 1 government instrumentality, the Port
does not anticipate selling any of these sites in the foreseeable future. In the
event the Port decides to develop any of the above four sites, the Port will follow
the requisite and industry standard geotechnical methods necessary for
evaluating compaction prior to construction activities.
GENERAL OFFICE: 2201 W.
