Mr. John Jackson
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
28 June 2004
Page 4
• Methyl test-butyl ether(MTBE)plus oxygenates (tert-butyl alcohol, di-isopropyl ether,
ethyl-tert-butyl ether, and tert-amylmethyl ether, and ethanol) and lead scavengers
(1,2-dichloroethane [1,2-DCA] and 1,2-dibromoethane [1,2-EDB]) using EPA Testing
Method 826013, and
• TotaI lead using EPA Testing Method 6010.
As required, the analytical results for the samples have been reported to the SJCEHD directly
from the laboratory via e-mail. Table 1 summarizes the analytical results. Sample detection
limits were increased by the laboratory because of elevated TPH present in the samples.
The analytical results indicated that TPHg (up to 5,800 mg/kg), TPHd (up to 560 mg/kg),
ethylbenzene (up to 44,400 ug/kg), and total xylenes (up to 33,000 ug/kg) were detected in all
samples. No concentrations of benzene, toluene, MTBE or oxygenates were detected in any
samples. Lead was detected in all samples at concentrations which ranged between 5.1 mg/kg
and 13 mg/kg. The laboratory analytical report is included as Attachment 1..
Fallowing the UST removal and sampling, soil excavation continued under the oversight of the
DTSC and the SJCEHD. A total of approximately 3,800 cubic yards of soil was eventually
excavated in the vicinity of the B-6 and B-9 location. This material was removed from the Site
for disposal at an appropriate waste facility. The results of the additional excavating,
confirmation sampling, waste disposal, and excavation backfilling work shall be included in a
separate report.
If you have questions or comments regarding please call.
Sincerely yours,
TREADWELL & ROLLO EDG.
GES
*.
No. 7066
David G.
