September 27, 1988 C0016 u Victor Farhoud EZ Gas Minimart 1405 Main Street Escalon, CA 95352 Re: 1405 Main Street, Escalon Review of the Supplemental Site Assessment submitted to this office on 8 September 1988, reveals the following: 1. The SdLHD does not concur with the conclusions and recommend- ations of the ETS Environmental report. Specifically: a)The report does not include a cross-sectional diagram indicating the direction and true vertical depth of the 30 degree angle borings #6 and #7, nor the relationship of these borings to potential sources of the contamination noted in boring #6. b)lt is unclear from the information provided how the analytical laboratory is able to distinguish between "weathered" gasoline and diesel in characterizing the contamination identified in the initial report. c)The investigation does not address the diesel tank precision test in 1986 which failed to show piping integrity and the subsequent piping repair performed by R&R Service Station Repair. 2. Further investigation may be required in the future to identify the nature and extent of soil contamination noted in the Preliminary Site Assessment Report of 7/11/88, and to prove that groundwater contamination has not occurred at this site. 3. An Unauthorized Release Report will be filed for this facility and it will be added to the list of sites with evidence of soil contamination.
