Spills of less than one shipping container of chemical cleaners <br /> in the Storage or Receiving area are to be immediately contained and picked up using <br /> the absorbent material, dust pan, broom, bucket and mop designated for these spills. <br /> Acidic (pH less than 7.0) chemical spill material, absorbent and damaged containers <br /> are placed in the salvage drum marked ACID CHEMICALS. Alkaline or caustic (pH <br /> greater then 7.01 chemical spill material, absorbent and damaged containers are placed <br /> in the salvage drum marked ALKALINE CHEMICALS. Relatively neutral (pH 6.5 to 7.8) <br /> chemical spill material, absorbent and damaged containers are placed In either drum. <br /> Spills of one shipping container or more of chemical cleaners In the Storage or <br /> Receiving area will be contained by the large containment socks located In the white <br /> spill response drums In the dock area. All available absorbent will be used to clean up <br /> the spill. Designated mops, dust pan will be used for cleanup. <br /> Disposal. The Environmental Specialist is contacted by the Supervisor on duty for <br /> Instructions on the proper disposal of the spill material and absorbent. <br /> Documentation. No documentation Is required for the subject area and chemicals. <br /> Refrigerated and Freezer Storage Areas <br /> The areas Involved are the frozen and refrigerated areas cooled by either ammonia or <br /> freon from compressors. Leakage within the facility Impacts these and the immediate <br /> surrounding areas. <br /> Employee Information. During off hours any employee <br /> detecting an ammonia retaase must report the release to a supervisor on duty.
