SECTION A <br />' MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE REQUIREMENTS <br /> Medical Surveillance Program Outline <br />' An outline of the Medical Surveillance Program which covers all workers at this site, follows. <br />' This program is required by law. <br /> Medical Surveillance Program: General Requirements <br /> ' Employees Covered <br />' Medical surveillance is to be provided to employees who have been or expected to <br /> be exposed to hazardous substances or health hazards above established PELs, <br /> without regard to the use of respirators, for 30 or more days in a 12 month period. <br /> Frequency of Medical Exams <br /> Medical examinations or consultation will be made available to employees who <br /> may have been exposed during an emergency incident to hazardous substances at <br /> or above the PEL without regard to the use of respirators, for 30 or more days in a <br /> 12 month period. <br /> A baseline or initial medical exam is required, prior to initial assignment to an are <br /> where medical exams are required. <br /> ' - When an employee brings to the employer's attention signs or symptoms <br /> indicating possible overexposure to hazardous substances. <br /> ' - Upon termination of employment, or upon reassignment to an area where medical <br /> exams are not required. <br /> Content of Medical Exams <br /> Preassignment and/or periodic medical examinations, consistent with the requirements of 29 <br /> ' CFR 1910.120(f) Medical Surveillance, shall continue to be provided for personnel assigned to <br /> the project. This examination includes provisions for determining both mercury and asbestos <br /> effects. <br /> 1. Medical and occupational histories. <br /> 2. Physical examination, including an evaluation of the candidate's ability to work with <br /> hazardous materials, to wear respirators and protective equipment, and to work in <br /> biothermal stress conditions. <br /> 21 <br />
