• •
B4.0 SAMPLING LOCATION AND FREQUENCY
Soil samples will be collected from the UST excavation, pipe trenches, and
contaminated soil stockpiles, as follows:
• One sample in the middle and one at each end of the tank. Additional
samples will be collected at the direction of the COR.
• Soil samples along fuel lines, at an interval of one sample per 20 feet and at
locations exhibiting evidence of contamination, at the direction of the COR.
• One soil sample per 35 cubic yards from the stockpiles.
Groundwater samples will be collected from the UST excavation as follows:
• One sample if groundwater is encountered during the excavation.
It is estimated that thirteen soil samples (including 10% QA samples) and two
groundwater samples will be collected for laboratory analysis. Additional samples
will be collected at the direction of the COR.
• A5.0 SAMPLING EQUIPMENT AND PROCEDURES
Soil samples from excavations will be collected by pushing a brass liner into the
backhoe bucket containing soil. The same sampling method will be used to collect
samples from the contaminated soil stockpiles. After sampling, the ends of the
brass liner will be covered with Teflorim sheets, capped with polyethylene lid,
labeled, and entered onto a chain-of-custody.
Groundwater in the tank excavation will be sampled using disposable bailers. A
new bailer will be used for each sample. Groundwater samples will be placed in
appropriate containers provided by the laboratory.
All glass containers and brass liners will be labeled individually and sealed with
evidence tape. Equipment decontamination, sample preservation, and sample
custody procedures are given in the CDQMP of the GMP.
For quality control, two extra sets (each about 10 percent of samples) of duplicate
or split samples will be collected. One set will be delivered to the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers South Pacific Division Laboratory in Sausalito, California, and the
other set to CKY Laboratories in Torrance.
B-2
