UST Closure Report
ABF Freight System,Inc.
Manteca,California Page 8
• 8.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
8.1 Conclusions
One 10,000-gallon UST and associated piping were removed from the ABF Freight Systems,
Inc. facility at Manteca, California. The UST was found to contain pitting and leakage. Diesel
fuel contamination was found in samples collected from the stockpiled soils and from the
groundwater. Because the soils analyzed from the excavation pit did contain detectable amounts
of petroleum hydrocarbons and since there was evidence of soil staining and odors below the
tank, it appears that there may have been some minor leakage of diesel fuel into the environment.
Based on these results, an "Underground Storage Tank Unauthorized Release
(Leak)/Contaminated Site Report"was filed by San Joaquin County pursuant to Section 25295 of
the Health and Safety Code (HSC). A copy of the report is included in Appendix 8. The
appropriate disclosure of a hazardous waste discharge pursuant to Section 25180.7 of the HSC
has been made, and the site has been placed on the list of contaminated sites in San Joaquin
County.
8.2 Recommendations
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division has reviewed the
analytical results of the soil and groundwater samples collected beneath the UST. Based on the
levels of contaminants present in the samples collected, further investigation to determine the
vertical and horizontal extent of soil and groundwater contamination is required.
•
N9PROJECTS\32720ans and Reports\UST Closure Report.doc
May 22,1998
