DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES STATE OF CALIFORNIA GEORGE DEUKMEJIAN. GOVERNOR
r ire
A ,FTI t
400 P Street. 5th Floor. Sacramento 95914
(916) 322-8994
April 21, 1989
Mr. Robert Evans
Central Valley RWQCB
3433 Routier Road
Sacramento, CA 95827
Dear Mr. Evans:
6 .rr. All
Enclosed are copies of reports of prior site investigations conducted at the
Deuel Vocational Institute. The information has previously been sent to the
San Joaquin County Tocal Health Department. There are three underground tank
areas where work activity has occurred; the Farm/Dairy area, the former Service
Station, and the Boiler Tank area.
Work had begun on removal of four tanks which contained heating oil at the
Boiler Tank area when the work was stopped due to discovery of asbestos on
pipes connected to the tanks. After an asbestos survey was completed, the
County allowed us to proceed with the work. During the period of time that the
excavation was open and before the tanks were cleaned and pulled, water had
entered the excavation and caused the tanks to roll and spill sane heating oil.
This office will proceed with removal of the water and all visibly contaminated
soil. A layer of Visqueen will be placed and the excavation backfilled with
clean material. Another phase of site investigation and remedial action will
be coordinated with you after you have reviewed the enclosed information.
Please contact me if I can provide additional information.
Sincerely,
Michael J.
