1
JAN 18 2018
Required:'
Provide Buoyancy Calculations s for a single fiberglass tank Installed by itself or adjacent to another tank. Determine
the float factory of safety for a grade slab thickness of t'slab =9.00 in, a total cover depth to grade of
Hcov_des =66-in, a water table htwwt = 0.00in below grade, a dry soil unit weight of -yBF= 100•pcf , and a saturated
submerged soil weight of Isub BF = 58.4pcf . Industry practice and PEI RP100-11 Appendix A section A9
recommend a minimum factory of safety against float of FSfloat= 1.20. For these calculations FSfloat = 1.20 is
used. Calculations assume that the tank is ballasted with Ballast =0-gal of SGBallast= 1.00 specific gravity fluid. If
the tank is buried deeper that Heov des =66.in the FS against float will be increased. The tank design is the
responsibility of Containment Solutions and is not considered in these buoyancy calculations.
Results will include the buoyancy factors of safety for the installation conditions listed above for
these installations:
- the tank without anchoring (no deadman anchors and no anchor slab)
- DeadmenDesign = "A deadmen solution is provided"
- AnchorSlabDesign = "No anchor slab solution is provided"
The tank drawing above shows a tank with deadmen as an example while this sheet considers
other configurations.
' These calculations are recommendations by CSI. It is ultimately the responsibility of the tank
owner or tank owner's representative to determine the appropriate anchoring method and to
design the anchoring system.
TE TV-HT T-1,4 ..
