26 May 1998 <br />AGE -NC Project No. 97-0326 <br />Page 2 of 5 <br />measured in each UST prior to removal. All USTs were examined for holes and condition upon <br />removal. The removed USTs were transported by West Coast Equipment to Turlock for recycling <br />as scrap metal. A receipt for acceptance of the USTs is included in Appendix A. <br />During removal of the piping and dispensers, additional abandoned piping was discovered at the site <br />and was removed. The locations of all discovered product piping runs are illustrated on Figure 2. <br />3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION — — <br />Immediately following removal of the USTs, soil samples were collected from approximately two <br />feet below the former UST inverts. On 20 February 1998, one soil sample was collected from the <br />location of each dispenser and an additional sample collected from between the dispensers (PI <br />through P5). Sample locations were specified by the PHS -EI -1D. Three sample were collected on 20 <br />February 1998 from the soil stockpiled on-site. Sample locations are illustrated on Figure 2. <br />The soil samples were collected in pre -cleaned 2 -inch by 3 -inch brass sleeves. Samples from <br />beneath the USTs were collected from the backhoe/excavator bucket. The ends of each brass sleeve <br />were covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. The samples were then labeled, stored <br />on ice and transported under chain -of -custody to Alpha Analytical Laboratories, inc. (AAL), a state - <br />certified laboratory. <br />3.3. SAMPLE ANALYSIS <br />A total of eight UST samples, five piping/dispenser samples and three stockpile samples were <br />collected and analyzed for: <br />• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA <br />Method .5030 <br />• Volatile aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes; BTE&X) with <br />methyl tertiary -butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8020 <br />• Oxygenated compounds in accordance with EPA Method 8260. <br />Three sub -UST soil samples were also analyzed for total lead in accordance with method 6010. <br />Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. <br />
