These areas were designated Area 3, Area 4, and Area 5, respectively
and were excavated by Henkels and McCoy under the direction of
Converse and the observation of Ms. Mary Meays of the San Joaquin
County Department of Environmental Health (SJCDEH). Each of the soil
samples was collected from the base of the excavation at a depth of
approximately 4-1/2 feet below grade. Two soil samples were collected
from Area 5 in two separate excavations. The locations of the soil samples
with respect to the nearby features (i.e. curbs, fences, etc.) are shown on
Drawing 2.
The soil samples were collected in accordance with the work plan for this
phase of work. The work plan was submitted by Converse to the SJCDEH
in the form of a Request for Authorization for a Limited Phase 3
Environmental Site Assessment, dated August 31, 1993. This work plan
was verbally approved by Ms. Mary Means of the SJCDEH on December 27,
1993.
ANALYSES AND LABORATORY RESULTS
Each of the soil samples collected Nvas analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified against diesel and motor oil (TPH-d and TPH-mo,
respectively). In addition, the two soil samples collected from Area 5 were
analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX); for
volatile organic hydrocarbons (VOH); and for cadmium, chromium, lead,
nickel, and zinc (Cd, Cr, Pb, Ni, and Zn, respectively). TPH-d and TPH-mo
analyses were performed using EPA method 8015 - modified. BTEX
analyses were performed using EPA method 8020. VOH analyses were
performed using EPA method 8010. Cd, Cr, Ni, and Zn analyses were
performed using EPA method 6010. Pb analyses were performed using
EPA method 7421.
No TPH-d or TPH-mo were reported in any of the soil samples collected
above the laboratory method detection limit.
