PHS/EHD has prepared the following
comments for your consideration.
Soil contamination is'-suspected to have developed as a result of the storage of leaking.
machinery. Five soil-samples were collected at depths ranging from 6 to 12 inches below
ground surface. Soil contamination was evidenced up to 1,700 ppm Total Recoverable
Petroleum Hydrocarbons. Based on seasonal high depth to groundwater for the area of less
than 10 feet (1986 San'7oaquin County Flood Control) additional investigation to determine
the vertical and horizontal extent of contamination will be necessary. PHS/EHD concurs
with the recommendation to include more qualitative laboratory analyses during additional
investigation.
Please submit a work plan by August 31, 1993 to continue the investigation. Copies of all
reports, work plans or correspondence should also be forwarded to the Central Valley
Regional Water Quality Control Board. If you have any questions, please contact Mary
Meays, Senior REHS, of my staff at (209) 468-0337.
Jogi Khanna, M.D., M.P.H.
Health Officer
Donna Heran, AEHS;Program Manager
Environmental Health Division
LAC/MM:lb
c: Wendy Cohen, CVRWQCB
A Division of San Joaquin County Health tare serAces
