This plume extends into the residential
neighborhood to the west. During a routine inspection, Mr. Michael Infurna, Senior Environmental
Health Specialist of San Joaquin County Public Health Services, observed an open irrigation well at
1912 North Sutro Avenue. This well is due north of Mr. Giglio's property(1836 Sutro Ave.) on which
you have two extraction wells. During my 20 June 2001 telephone conversation with Mr. Infuma, he
requested that UNOCAL sample this irrigation well for the constituents of concern at this site. He
further related that he discussed this with the property owner who is willing to allow UNOCAL to
sample the well. If the well contains constituents identified with PureGro activities, UNOCAL must
abandon this well pursuant to San Joaquin County's Impacted W611 Ordinance.
By 11 July 2001,please sample this well for the following constituents: nitrate, ammonium, volatile
organic compounds, chlorinated herbicides, and fumigants, and submit a results report by 1 August
2001.
During the June 2001 installation of MW-18 in the southwest comer of the Western Farm Services
facility, the unusual soil color of the upper five feet necessitated closure of the boring. Sierra-Pacific
transmitted soil samples to a laboratory for analysis at Mr. Infurrla's request. When we review the soil
results, we can assess what protective measures, if any, will be required for the installation of MW-18.
Please provi a the analytical results of the soil samples from MW-18 by 6 July 2001.
