Delta has had much success in sail venting soils containing
hydrocarbon constituents at a number of sites in northern California. Because of the
' sandy naturs of lite soils at this site it is Delta's profLisional opinion that these soils era
.,Veil suited for soil vonting. Our plats for soil venting soils at this site consists of laying
two 30-foot lengths of 4-inch-diameter PVC well scr= in the base of tht former tank
basin (Rigure 1), 'mese lengths of well screen will be connected by a 20-Foot length of
4-inch PVC blank casing. The PVC blank casing will be manifolslcd to the surface and
connected Evia a shallow trench) to a small blower or fan that will draw soil gas
tontaittimg Ctydrocarbon constituents from the soils underlying the site. The proposed
location of the blower (or fan) and stack fur the soil venting system, is shown on Figure
1. Location of soil samples taken from the tank basin are shown an Figure 2. sail
sample laboratory reports are enclosed.
Following installation of the PVC Weil sc,cen in the base of the former tank excavation,
the excavation will leo backfilled with clean 5111 (as needed) and soils remaining on the
- - -
- ---site-which had_originally been removed from the excavation. Fallowing backfilling and
prior to rebuilding the gasoline station a' thu elle;the former tank basin .an associated
trenching will be covered with an approximately 2-inch layer of asphalt p;tvoment.
After installation of the system discussed in LIds letter, a tmure formai sal! rantcdintfon
pian will be completed and submitted to Son Joaquin County Public health Services.
Prior to operation of the soil venting system the appropriate. permit(s) will be oblainee
from the San Joaquin Air Pollution Control District (SJAPCD).
