t"r
PROBLEM ASSESSMENT REPORT
Moore Petroleum, Inc.
1399 E. Yosemite Avenue, Manteca, CA
NGA Project No. 10-40480
Page 15
A reasonable estimate of the total volume of water necessary to
remove all dissolved hydrocarbons (assuming that hydrocarbons are
riot added to the ground--water system) would be on the order of 3-
5 pore volumes of water (1 pore volume equaling the total volume
of water contained within the dissolved hydrocarbon plume) . From
examination of Figure 9, a very conservative estimate of the time
required for the removal of 1 pore volume of water would be
significantly less than 200 days. A conservative estimate of the
time required for the removal of 3-5 pore volumes would be on the
order of 600-1000 days.
Treatment of ground water extracted from MW-1A would be by air
stripping. Air stripping would be accomplished by bubbling air
via a small blower through a 350-gallon tank tc remove
hydrocarbons. The 350--gallon tank would allow about 1000 minutes
resident time with a pumping rate of less than 0.35 gpm. This
resident time should be sufficient to allow the removal of
hydrocarbons.
Following approval from the proper local authorities, effluent
ground water from the bubbling tank would be disposed either in the
on-site storm or sanitary sewer.
6.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the results of this Problem Assessment Report, NGA
recommends completion► of the following tasks.
• Following issuance of a permit to construct and operate
the soil venting system, implement the proposed soil
venting system.
• Implement the ground-water remediation alternative
described in Section 5.2.
