Samples will rEot br? to,cted
after their aarnple lift, has been exceeded according to EPA
quidel ines, and will be properly di:,posed of after analy 3is.
SOIL, SAMPLING
All sail sampling equipment will be thoroughly s,team-
cleareed before sampling and between sasapling toprevent
cross-contamination. Relatively undisturbed sail samples
will be taken at intervals of not more than -Fiver feet in
order to evaluate the subsurface r-raterialsi however, this
sampling interval may be waived in saturated sands or gravels
in which sample recrvery is not possible.
The soil samples will be collected r-ising a California
Modified split-spoon sampler with brass liners. The sampler
will be driven by a 140 pound hawmar repo ttedly falling :30
inches (ASTM Standard 1513G).
The laboratory aarnples wi;l not have head space and will
be immediately sealed in their liners using aluminum Fail
lined plastic caps that are taped in place. The remaining
sample will be removed from its iicer^ to be used for sieve
analysis, if appropriate, and to aid the cin-cite geologist in
lagging the material.
GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
All sampling equipment, including the pump, bailer,
cables, and glove warn by sampling personnel, will be
disassembled if appropriate and steam cleaned prior to
commencement of sampling. These procedures will also be
followed between each well or sampling point and at the enol
of the saerpl ing day. De-ioniysd or organic-free water will
then be introduced into the pump or bailer- as the last stages
of cleaning prier to the taking of each sample.
Immediately prior to sampling, water levels and well
depth measurement; will be taken in all wells at tine site.
Each well will be evacuated using a Teflon bladder pump which
dots riot introduce air into the water columna, or a Teflon
bailer. At least three well volumes will be evacuated fr,:-rn
the wells. Parameters of the water cotnji.tior-, will be
measured and logged darning the evacuation. These parameters
shall include te=mperature, conductivity and pH.
Walls that are dewatered before the evac].ratiOrn OF three
well volumes has been accomplished will be sampled upoi-; SQ
pe -cervi recovery of the initial water level, car upon
stabilization of the water level.
