(YA
Proposed soil gas boring locations are shown on Figure 2.
UST Soil Sample Collection
There is one 14,960 gallon UST near the southwest corner of the main building which was
originally installed in 1980 to supply fuel to the facility's backup emergency generator. The UST
was filled with 16 cubic yards of pea gravel by Cen-Cal Services Inc. of Manteca, California. To
assess subsurface conditions beneath the tank, ATC will employ a direct push drill rig and
advance one angled soil boring beneath each end of the tank to a depth of approximately 15 feet
below ground surface (bgs). Soil samples will be collected every 5 linear feet and field screened
with a portable Photoionization Detection (PID)meter for the presence of volatile organic vapors.
Based on field observations, (i.e. soil discoloration, PID measurements, obvious odor) one soil
sample from each boring will be submitted to a State-certified laboratory for the analysis of
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPHg) and TPH as diesel (TPHd) utilizing EPA Methods 8015M and 8020.
Following sample collection, each open bore hole will be grouted to the surface with neat cement.
The proposed boring locations are shown on Figure 2.
Surface Stain Assessment
ATC will employ a direct push drill rig and advance three shallow soil borings in the immediate
vicinity of the oil surface in order to evaluate potential soil impaction beneath the surface stain. It
is anticipated the soil borings will be limited to a depth of four feet bgs or less. A PID meter will
be used to monitor the presence of volatile organic vapors.
Based on field observations, (i.e. soil discoloration, PID measurements, obvious odor) one soil
sample per soil boring will be submitted to a State-certified laboratory for the analysis of total oil
and grease (TOG) and PCBs utilizing EPA Methods 5520 and 8080, receptively.
Following sample collection, each open bore hole will be grouted to the surface with neat cement.
The proposed boring locations are shown on Figure 2.
Report Preparation
Following the completion of field activities and the receipt of laboratory results, a report
summarizing the findings of the work performed.
W:\16962\REP0RTS\W0RK_PLN.DOC 6
