Preliminary Site Assessment Work Plan - May 1998
Rail Road Square (former Sears Roebuck)
North Aurora Street, Stockton, California
APN# 151-08-46 620
1.0. INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE OF WORK
In accordance with a request from Mr. Rod Bovee of the Union Safe Deposit Bank (USDB)
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE)has prepared the enclosed Preliminary Site Assessment
Work Plan for the Rail Road Square(former Sears Roebuck)at 620 North Aurora Street, Stockton,
California. The scope of work is to advance six (6) soil probe borings, utilizing direct push
technology (DPT). The objective is to investigate if an unauthorized release of petroleum
hydrocarbons related to the former use of underground storage tank(s) (USTs) at the site.
The location of the site is illustrated in Figure 1 -Location Map. A plan of the site is depicted in
Figure 2 -Site Plan.
This work plan is prepared in accordance with San Joaquin County Public Health Services -
Environmental Health Division(PHS-EHD)and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control
Board guidelines for the investigation of UST sites.
2.0. BACKGROUND
2.1. SITE LOCATION
The site is located on the east side of North Aurora Street, south of Park Street in a
commercial/industrial area of low topographic relief in Stockton at an elevation between 15 and 20
feet above mean sea level. Residential property lies further toward the west. The regional slope of
the area is toward the west. The surface of the site is covered mostly with asphalt.
2.3. REGIONAL GROUND WATER ELEVATION
The estimated depth to ground water at the property is approximately 50 feet below surface grade
(bsg),based on the map titled Lines of Equal Depth to Groundwater Spring 1996 published by the
San Joaquin County Flood Control District and Water Conservation District(FCD&WCD). The map
titled Lines of Equal Elevation of Groundwater Spring 1996, also published by the FCD&WCD,
shows the property to be near an area of depressed ground water elevation, where ground water from
the surrounding area flows toward the low. The map is suggestive of local ground water flow toward
the east to northeast on or near the property, but this may be easily modified by changing recharge
and discharge patterns. Ground water is considered to be of beneficial use and is used for domestic,
industrial and commercial purposes.
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc.
