(JJW) on behalf of the above site and has the following
comments. The report was received by PHSiEHD on January 20, 200-0.
The report documents the August 1999 installation of two deep monitorir"ig ve'Is,"DMJV 7
and L MW8 to 110-feet below surface grade, the analysis of.selected soil sample
collected during the drilling of the well borings. and the vieli development and
groundwater moi dtoring event wh!& tc'ok glace on September '10. 1999. .
Results of the soil sample analyses indicate that petroleum hydrocarbon contamination:
in soil extends to above 80-feet below surface grade (bsg) in DMW-7, and to at least 75- "
feet bsg in DMW-8. These results are somewhat inconsistent with the observations
made during drilling, when hydrocarbon odors were noticeable to at least 90-feet bsg.
Results of the groundwater monitoring sarnple analyses show that significant shallow .
groundwater contamination remains in the areas of the former tank pits, and that it has
not been defined laterally to the west or in the down-gradient direction towards the
southeast. Contaminant concentrations in MW-2, which is located in the former gasoline
tank pit area, include 56,000 parts per billion (ppb) total petroleum hydrocarbons as gas
(TPHg), 160-ppb methyl tertiary butyl ether (MtBE), 8,200-ppb benzene, 23,000-ppb
toluene, 550-ppb 1,2-dichlor,oethane (11,2-DCA), 860-ppb 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) and
280-ppb tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA). Results from the new deep wells indicate that the
vertical extent of the groundwater contamination has not been defined, nor has the
lateral extent at this depth. Contaminants of concern at depth include TPHg, benzene,
1,2-DCA, EDB and some very high levels of ethanol (120,000-ppb in DMW-7 and 6,900-
ppb in DMW-8).
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
