PHSIEHD has the following comments for your consideration.
The work plan included a proposal to advance a minimum of nine soil borings using push-
point technology in the area of the former underground storage tanks. PHSIEHD agrees that
sufficient information should be available following the proposed investigation to determine
the necessity and best location for monitoring wells and the vertical and horizontal extent of
soil contamination.
Approximately twenty soil samples will be submitted for laboratory analysis. The samples will
be analyzed to evaluate the extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination. Also, since
elevated lead levels were reported in the most contaminated soil samples collected at the
time of tank removal, selected soil samples should undergo lead analysis to further evaluate
the reported results. Once field activities are completed, please contact me to discuss the
selection of soil samples which will undergo analysis.
As PHSIEHD has indicated in previous correspondence, please provide information regarding
the disposal of the stockpiled soil that evidenced petroleum hydrocarbon contamination.
Please submit a drilling permit application along with the $89 fee. Once the drilling permit
has been issued, please contact me at least 2 working days prior to initiating the proposed
field activities. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Divisio
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Margaret Lagorio, RE S
Site Mitigation Unit Lead Senior
MM11207AUR
cc: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCB
Philip Goalwin, PC Toxic
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
