Hunter &
Assoc.
Lodi Ready Mix - Robert Spoor, Plant Manager
k
Arrived an location at 9:30AM; Rich Thorpe was in process of
removing concrete from paved area. Removed concrete, leaving an
i area approximately 25' long, (Nf5,) by 23' wide, (E/W. )
Spoil removal began about 10:30AM; primarily very fine, friable,
sandy loam, tan to buff, with occasional pods and lenses of gray
' to tan clay. ' No distinct bedding was noted; soil loose and
poorly indurated. Sands are predominantly quartz and feldspar,
z with some clayey matrix evident.
Strong petroleum odor was noted, and areas of contamination had a
darker gray-brown color. Soil discoloration quite apparent to a
depth of about 4' in the area occupied by the pump island. Odor
and discoloration decreased with depth, and not detectable at
1W-1S', until layer of hardpan was
k P penetrated, when odor again
became apparent. There was no soil discoloration noted, however.
Three samples taken during excavation were .placed in . water; no
color noted, but a --light film of
unknown composition was
observed on top of the water surface.
The hole was deepened to approximately 20' at the south end, and
about 23-24' at the north end; see sketches "A" & "B". No .water
was encountered, although the soil was damp near surface,
becoming lass moist with depth. Samples were taken as indicated
3 on the sketches, properly sealed and stored in ice chest. The
excavation and . taking of samples was supervised by Mr. Hunter,
under the direction of Mr. Knoll. No odor or discoloration were .
noted in any of the samples, which were primarily fine- to
medium-grained sandy loam.
The
operation—was-finished-at -4:30PM.
