d ix
Lodi Ready M Page 2
Site Closure Report
Project No. 93.1
May 12, 1995
T
' a bulk concrete mixing and loading plant. This facility once operated two
underground storage tanks of which one 1,000 gallon capacity tank held diesel
' fuel and the other 1,000 gallon capacity tank held gasoline motor fuel for
business operation.
' On December 19, 1989, Thorpe Oil Company uncovered and removed two
carbon steel underground storage tanks (1,000 gallon capacity unleaded tank
' I.D. 1359-01 and a 1,000 gallon capacity diesel tank I.D. 1359-02) from the 851
East Lodi Avenue location. The tanks were purged and triple rinsed of all
remaining petroleum product which was containerized, manifested (Manifest
#87849390-EPA site #CAC000158517), and properly disposed of at Refineries
' Service in Patterson, California. The inerted tanks were transported to and
received on January 11, 1990 by Schnitzer Steel Products of Rancho Cordova,
' California.
Detectable concentrations'of petroleum hydrocarbons were found in the soil
' beneath the south ends of both former UST's and the pump island (samples
GS-1, 2, 3, 4, & 5). This information was transmitted to the PHS/EHD in the
April 4, 1990 Jim Thorpe Oil Company Re-Excavation/Re-Sample Work Plan.
MOn August 1, 1990, a re-excavation and sampling effort was performed by Jim
Thorpe Oil, Inc. The original tank removal excavation was enlarged to
' remove contaminated soil. Confirmation soil samples were collected and
two samples were shown to contain detectable petroleum hydrocarbons. This
information was transmitted to the PHS/EHD by William J. Hunter and
' Associates.
On or about October 10, 1990, a second re-excavation was performed in the
' south area of the re-excavation of the former UST and pump island removal
excavation. Slight levels of petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in several
of the confirmation soil samples tested. This information was compiled into
' the November 1990 Site Assessment Report transmitted to the PHS/EHD by
William J. Hunter and Associates.
iThe excavated soil was stockpiled on site and the excavation was backfilled
with clean washout sourced from the operation of the cement plant. The
' stockpiled soil was divided into 10 piles each containing approximately 50
cubic yards of material.
' On October 22, 1991, Geological Technics Inc. (GTI) collected soil samples from
the stockpiled soil and tested them in order to characterize their chemical
content. Only two piles of soil were shown to contain detectable levels of
' petroleum hydrocarbons:
1
