1 LEVINE-FRICKE
1
Two above ground storage tanks (one 1, 000-gallon capacity and one
1 500-gallon capacity) are located near the southwest corner of the
Quonset hut. These contain diesel fuel used to fuel farm
machinery, according to Mr. Ripkin.
Agricultural Chemicals
According to Mr. Ripkin, to his knowledge all agricultural chemi-
cal applications at the Site have been performed aerially by
D & D Flying of Robert's Island, and Ag Flight of Lodi, Califor-
nia. D & D Flying is now out of business, but according to Mr.
Tony DeLucca, the former owner of the firm, records are available
on chemicals applied at the Site for the past three years.
Records for 1988 indicate that the major crop grown for which
agricultural chemicals were applied was alfalfa, and that FMC
Furadan and Platte Diazinon, were applied at the Site for this
crop through aerial spraying. Furadan is of the carbamate class
of pesticides, and Diazinon is an organophosphate compound.
According to Mr. DeLucca, most of the Site had been used for
growing safflower, which did not require chemical- application.
No records were found indicating fertilizer applications, as the
County reportedly does not require maintenance of records on this
type of chemical application (personal communication, Mr. Tony
DeLucca, January 1989) .
Information concerning agricultural chemicals applied by Ag
Flight obtained from the San Joaquin County Agricultural Commis-
sioner's office is summarized in Section 7. 1.
Power Lanes
Chemical herbicides are commonly used by public power utilities
to control weeds beneath power lines. Pacific Gas & Electric was
contacted to obtain information concerning weed control practices
with respect to the power lines which transverse the southern
border of the Site. Based on the information obtained from PG&E,
(summarized in Section 7.1) , chemical weed control does not appear
to have been practiced at this location.
1 No other sources of chemical use, storage, handling, spillage or
disposal were identified during our review of the history of Site
usage.
J
6.0 RECONNAISSANCE INSPECTION OF SITE AND NEIGHBORING AREA
On December 29, 1988, Mr. Scott Seyfried, a Levine•Fricke
Geologist, conducted a walk-through .inspection of the Site and
conducted an interview with the current owner of the Site
property, Mr. Ripkin. The purposes of the inspection and
-5-
