Appendix A
Groundwater Sampling Procedures And Logs
•
1 A.I WATER LEVEL MEASURENIENT
The depth to water will be measured using a solinet (or equivalent) «ater leNel meter to the
nearest 0 01 foot The depth to the static water level will be measured by lowering the probe into
the well and obtaining two successive readings that agree to within 0 01 feet Measurements will
1 be referenced to a mark at the top of the well casing
A.2 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
Routine groundwater sampling has been conducted using conventional procedures and
equipment, described below by Professional Services Industries (PSI) under contract to Caltrans
The conventional procedures consist of purging the well and collecting samples with bailers after
ample recovery In addition, selected were sampled in April 1999 using a KabisT" II Sampler for
4-inch wells (the KabisTI1 I sampler is for 2-inch wells) The KabtsTh1 II Sampler is designed to
collect groundwater samples in triplicate at discrete depths When analyzed, the samples may
provide a vertical profile of the water chemistry within the well
A 2 1 Sample Collection using the KabisT`I II Sampler (Vertical Groundwater Sampling)
Discrete, vertical groundwater samples were collected at up to three depths «ithin selected wells
using the Kabisr'' Il Sampler The KabisT`I II Sampler is designed to collect three 40-milliliter
vials of groundwater at discrete depths The KabisT`I II Sampler is described in more detail in
Appendix B
A.2?
