Margaret Lagorio [EH]
From: Margaret Lagorio [EH]
Sent: Wednesday, December 06, 2006 11:52 AM
To: James L. L. Barton (E-mail)
Subject: 6437 Banner, Lodi
Jim,
Sorry it took longer to get this information to you than I thought but here are some points and information on the Shell and
Chevron sites.
1. A drinking water well was installed at 14749 Thornton Road for 3 B's truck facility in July 1981 when Richard Bokides
owned the property. This well still exists but its use is minimal.
2. A drinking water well for 14659 Thornton Road, Rocky's Restaurant, was installed in March 1984. The first time this
well water was tested for MTBE was 2/25/99 and it had 7 ppb MTBE. This well was destroyed in March 2002 after the
County Service area 31 (CSA31) allowed the restaurant to connect to their water system. It is very effident that this well
affected the flow of groundwater at the Chevron site.
3. The first UST's were installed at the Chevron site in 1983. The water for the site was from a well north of the Chevron
site (see drawing attached). In May 1991 three monitoring wells were installed at the Chevron site for an environmental
assessment. The May 9, 1991 contour map showed water flowing north-northeast towards the drinking water well. A May
18, 1993 potentiometric map shows water flowing northwest(between the Chevron well and Rocky's well)and a water
sample from MW 1 had benzene so the site was placed in the LOP on May 21, 1993.
4. CSA 31 wells were drilled southeast of Chevron in September 1994. The Chevron site was connected to the CSA31
water system and the well north of Chevron was destroyed on 4/20/95. The July 19, 1996 Groundwater elevation map
(attached)shows water flow southeast. The August 23, 1996 map (attached)shows water flow southwest towards
Rocky's well. A Geoprobe investigation in August and September 1997showed the contaminant plume to have migrated to
the southwest towards Rocky's well (map attached).
5. After Rocky's well was confirmed to be contaminated with MTBE Regional Board took the lead regulatory status on
2/16/00.
6. In 1999 groundwater flow maps show varing flow directions and once groundwater extraction started in November 2000
the groundwater flow at the Chevron was towards the extraction wells. The statement that groundwater flowed north for 10
years has no support.
6. Corrections to Draft C &A. - BACKGROUND#5 last sentence should read: On 9 March 2005, the Site was placed in
the SJCEHD Local Oversight Program. BACKGROUND#6 first sentence should read: According to SJCEHD files, in a
phone conversation with the Dischargers prior to 9 March 2005, SJCEHD requested a work plan to delineate the vertical
and lateral extent of the MTBE groundwater plume within 60 days.
};
It
Scanned_.pdf Scanned_.pdf Scanned_.pdf
Hope this helps.
Margaret
1
