Box 2009
r• Stockton, CA 9201
Dear Ms. Cotulla, ! ;'
This is the letter report that Weiss Associates (WA) agreed to provide ' l=
ynu as preliminary documentation regarding the San Joaquin Mosquito Abatement
Facility, Lodi, California_
rj•
On 28 October Precision Industries (PI) excavated soil to 31 ft below
ground surface, 6 ft below sample SJMB/2 which had 3,800 parts per million
(ppm) total hydrocarbons (THC). Soil from the bottom of the excavation was #i
w sampled and analyzed on a rush turnaround basis by Gas Chromatography/Flame
Ionization Detection (CC/FIT)) for THC, benzene, toluene, xylene, and ethyl
benzene (BTXEB) with dete, tion limits of 10 ppm for THC and 0.5 ppm for
BTXEB. Analytic results from this sample,-numbered BH31, are as follows:
.i
Compound (ppm)
Sample B T X EB THC
4
BH31 8.7 79 220 64 3,300
i
The results indicate that fuel hydrocarbons extend below the reach of a
large-sized excavator and may extend to ground water. Further excavation
would be prohibitively expensive. Therefore WA recommends:
1) Install the 8,000-gallon weed oil tank . in the clean excavation
adjacent to the gasoline tank excavation and move the location of
1,000-gallon gasoline tank to clean area.
2) Backfill contaminated gasoline tank excavation and install a ground
water monitor well.
A lairision cif Arltm7lrrr.rlssaci,tfc5 lncnrporrfed
