` KLEINFELDER
control to Kleinfelder's office and then transported by courier in a scaled container to a state
certified laboratory for the requested analyses.
The stainless steel hand auger was decontaminated between sample locations with a Liquinox®
(laboratory -grade detergent) and potable water wash and a distilled water rinse. New stainless
steel tubes used for sample collection were also decontaminated using the same methodology.
The shallow borings were backfilled with the soil generated during sampling.
4.6.1 Wash. Doren Steam Clean Area
Twelve shallow hand auger borings (W-1 through W-12) were advanced around a wash down
area associated subsurface sump and storm drain. The storm drain appeared to be routed from
the southern end of the wash down pad westward towards Beckman Road. Seven shallow
borings were advanced around the washdown pad, and five borings were advanced around the
stormdrain routing. Sample collection was also conducted in the vicinity of the reported sump
location.. Soil samples submitted for analyses were collected at depths of approximately 18 -
inches, including a soil sample collected at a deeper 5 foot depth (W-9). For a summary of
sampling depths and locations refer to Table 6 and Plate 3, respectively. Some soil discoloration
and petroleum -type odor was noted during sampling activities in this area.
From the twelve discrete soil sample locations two four point composite samples and four
discrete soil samples were submitted for analyses. One composite sample was collected from the
pipeline routing area and one near the washdown area. Discrete samples were collected in both
areas. The two composite and five discrete soil samples were submitted for the following
analyses,
• Total Threshold Limit Concentrations (TTLCs) of California Assessment Manual (CAM -17)
metals by EPA Methods;
• Total Purgeable Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to gasoline [TPH-G] and Benzene
Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Total Xylenes [BTEX] by EPA Method 8015M18020;
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to Diesel and Motor Oil [TPH-
DIMO] by EPA Method 8015M13015;
• Chlorinated Herbicides by EPA Method 8151;
• Organophosphate Pesticides by EPA Method 8141;
• Organochlorine Pesticides by EPA Method 8081.
4.6.2 Chemical Storage Area
Nine shallow hand auger borings (C-1 through C-9) were advanced in a former chemical storage
area previously located between the two former UST areas. Samples were unable to be collected
at three of the locations C-2, C-4 and C-5 due to refusal and difficult sampling conditions.
Samples were collected from three shallow hand auger borings C-1, C-3 and C-6 at depths
3627=11 ST03R1919 Page 9 of 19
: 2004 Kleinfelder, Inc.
