STATE ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSOR No.: 01781
Telephone: (209) 754-1808
Post Office Box 950
750 Industrial Way
SAN ANDREAS, CALIFORNIA 95249
"EXECUTIVE SUMMARY"
Proposed Remediation Work
Mataga Olds - Buick
880 So . Beckman Road
Lodi , CA 95240
On May 31 , 1991 a 550 gallon , single wall steel , underground
waste oil storage tank was removed at this site . Soil samples
were captured from the excavation at that time . Laboratory analysis
of these samples revealed that Motor Oil , Xylene , Benzene and
various metals were present in the soils in this excavation above
normal threshold limits . No Diesel , PCB ' s or Chlorinated Hydro-
carbons were detected in the soil samples .
It is now proposed to remove the contaminated soils from the
excavation as follows :
A large Hopto 550 backhoe will be used to excavate an additional
3 to 5 feet of soils from the North , East and West ends of the
initial excavation . It is estimated that approximately 15 cubic
yards of soil will be removed during this over excavation . Visual
inspection and field detection equipment (Organic Vapor Analyzer-
FID) will be used to screen the soils during excavation to assist
in evaluating the limits of contamination .
The excavated soil will be placed on and covered with B mil .
plastic sheeting for temporary storage on site to await proper
disposal .
At the conclusion of excavation , confirming soil samples will
be captured from the excavation and analyzed in a laboratory to
confirm if all the contaminants have been removed from the exca-
vation .
Once it is confirmed that all contaminates have been removed
to below threshold levels , the excavation will be back filled
with pea gravel and the surface paving replaced .
