Memo
To: Johnny Yoakum Project: 0064470063
From: Heidi Dietrich-Foronda
Tel: (510) 663-4133
Date: March 7, 2014
Subject: Soil Vapor Probes Destruction
Tracy Sites
Tracy, California
On behalf of Chevron Environmental Management Company, AMEC Environment &
Infrastructure, Inc. plans to destroy seven soil vapor probes installed February 27, 2014, at 990
Beechnut Avenue (APNs: 23407001 and 23407006), 880 Beechnut Avenue (APN: 23407004),
and Fourth Street at North Central Avenue (City right-of-way), Tracy, CA. The vapor probes
were constructed to 5.5 feet below ground surface and will be destroyed by pulling out the
tubing by hand and hydrating the bentonite grout to ensure a seal (see well construction Figure
1). The locations and boring IDs of the vapor probes are shown on Exhibits A, B, and C.
We assumed a cost of $375 for the Inspection Activity Fee for each site and a $125 destruction
fee for each well. A check for a total of$2,000 will be sent to your office by March 12, 2014.
Per our phone conversation on March 6, 2014, we would like to document that semi-permanent
soil vapor probes were constructed in each soil boring. An illustration of the probe construction
is shown on Figure 1. No neat cement grout was used during the construction which is contrary
to the grout specified on the Well & Boring Permit Application. We apologize for this mix-up.
Also, due to difficult subsurface conditions, a boring was not advanced (and no soil vapor probe
was constructed) on the UPRR property on Fourth Street.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, Mari Gilmore, or Zachary
Lauffenburger at 510-663-4100.
Sincerely yours,
Heidi Dietrich-Foronda
Environmental Scientist
AMEC Environment & Infrastructure, Inc.
Direct Tel.: 510-663-4144
Direct Fax: 510-663-4141
E-mail: heidi.dietrich@amec.com
Enclosures: Well & Boring Permit Applications
Exhibits A, B and C
Figure 1
AMEC Environment&Infrastructure, Inc.
2101 Webster Street, 12th Floor
Oakland,California
USA 94612-3066
Tel (510)663-4100
Fax (510)663-4141
www.amec.com
