(Blaine Tech);to.describe the results of groundwater monitoring that was performed at
the subject site on.February 25, 1997.
During the February site monitoring-event Blaine Tech gauged and sampled all nine site-related wells. All
groundwater samples were analyzed for the presence of TPHGas,BTEX constituents, and MTBE.The
groundwater elevation beneath the subject site was the.highest measured in nearly seven years.Despite the
rise in groundwater elevation, most contaminant concentrations remained consistent with those measured
previously. There was however,an increase in concentration measured at well MW-5. The measured
direction of groundwater flow was toward the northeast.
During the February site monitoring event,Blaine Tech also sampled Municipal Well#10. Samples
collected from this well were analyzed for the presence of TPHGas,BT.EX, and MTBE. None of these I
contaminants were detected above their respective.-reporting levels.
I would also like to acknowledge receipt of your letter.daied April 25, 1997. In that letter, your agency
directed Chevron to perform additional investigation to assess the vertical_migration and deposition of soil
and/or groundwater contamination in the vicinity of the former UST complex, submit a workplan I
describing such, and report results in a corrective action plan by May 30, 1997. Chevron has discussed i
this directive with its consultant, Geraghty&Miller,.and is willing to perform the required investigation.
However in discussing the investigation with Geraghty&-Miller,it was recognized that specialized
drilling and sampling procedures-would need to be employed to obtain representative soil samples beneath
the_hydrocarbon"smear"zone. Unfortunately, the required equipment won't be available soon enough to
provide results by May 30, 1997.-As such,.Chevron and•Geraglity&Miller will include the requested
work plan in the corrective action plan and submit both by May 30, 1997. The results of the requested
investigation will be submitted within 45 days of completing the field work.
If you have any questions or comments,I can be reached at(510) 842-8695.
Z.
