wax^+ `a ... - •« tee ^' - - - µr' -., aC.K- u*;. .,. °1... +
Pt
Mr. Kyle Christie
June 29, 1959
Page ;
JUL 1999
Conclusions ENVIRONMENTA+HEALTH
QERMITISERVICV
Groundwater samples collected during the Winter quarter 1989, show that benzene
concentrations arc increasing in wells E-2, E-5, E-8, E-9, E-]0, and E-
could be t 12. This increase
he result of two factors: (1) contamination is being pulled by the recovery system
toward the site from another source. A Chevron station, located north of the site, across
Benjamin Holt Drive, has a confirmed soil contamination and suspected groundwater
contaminatiou problem; and
aforementioned Che+•rort station)has cbeenunderoconstruction ubilized recently.
cTheentirc stafII tile tion was 1' 3
demolished and the asphalt covering the lotwas removed. This has increased rain water
access to contaminated soil, and therefore, caused the solubilixation of product from the soil
into the groundwater.
The BETX concentrations in well PR-1 have decreased-to nondetectable since the fall quarter
1988. BETX was nondetectable in well PR-I for all quarterly sampling events prior to the
fall quarter 1988. This one-time occurrence of BETX is represantative of a samp lin
or cross contamination during the sampling of well PR-I in th-; fall quarter 1988. b error
Recommendations
Continued quarterly monitoring of the site is recommended. Monitoring wells PR-I, BHD_1,
E-2, E-5, E-8, E-10, E-11, and E-12 should be sampled on the new quarterly schedule, which
begins in May 1989.
Very truly yours,
BROWN AND CALDWELL
Phillips
r
Proj Manager
" LEP:PYD:mkw
Enclosure
cc/enc: Ms. Laurie Caiulla, San Joaquin County Health Department
Mr. John Randall, Chevron
Mr. Chris Winsor, ARCO Products Company
BROWN AND CALDWELL
723SSTREET SACRALMENTO•GWFORNN 92 r916) /4•0123 '' \
