x•
t
EXHIBIT A
DESCRIPTION OF FIELD METHODS
Measurements of the static water level were taken in each well prior to commencing purging, and
a check for floating product was also made at that time.
Prior to sampling, the monitoring wells were purged using a diaphragm pump (supplied by
Armour Petroleum Services). The wells were purged of a minimum of three well volumes, if
passible, or until they went dry. A well volume is defined as the amount of groundwater in the
well casing and in the filter pack, at an assumed porosity of 35 percent. Measurements of pH,
specific conductance, and temperature of the groundwater were taken at regular intervals during
pumping. After purging, each well was sampled with a disposable bailer equipped with a
bottom-emptying valve. The sample was drained directly through the bottom valve-into two 40-
milliliter glass vials with Teflon-lined septa.
All groundwater produced during the sampling activity was removed from the site by Armour
Petroleum Services.
i
Efflollaawmam"M will'z'M11 101111
i
