le
k '
ME! 1::,!!11
ES
M,- -
Mr. Chuck Carmel
July 11. 1991
Page 14
r^
Security Measut•es
The above ground components of the groundwater extraction system are surrounded by a cyclone
:once with a locked gate. The extraction well head and its components are enclosed in a below
ground, steel traffic vault. The doors of the vault are secured with two bolts.
Summary
At the present time,the groundwater extraction system at ARCO Station 2133;s operating at an
average discharge of 10.8 to 11.0 gpsn. At his pumping rate,the systen,will effectively capture
the estimated extent of the hydrocarbon plume. The extraction system will continue to operate
until the regulatory agencies determine that the hydrocarbon concentrations have been reduced
sufficiently.
The system discharges directly to the sanitary sewer under a City of Stocldon Wastewater
Discharge Permit. The effluent groundwater being discharged to the sewer is sampled every two
weeks to monitor the total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH), benzene,ethylbenzene, toluene; and
xylene (BET%), and the metals cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, nickel, and zinc, If the
concentrations of any of these constituents exceed the concentration designated in the discharge
permit, the system will be turned off and other treatment alternatives will be consideree.
The groundwater monitoring wells at the site are sampled on a quarterly basis and analyzed for
of the constituents are reported in the quarterly reports
TPH and BM. The concentrations
which are submitted to the involved agencies, The true effectiveness of the groundwater
extraction system will be measured by the reduction in the constituents in the monitoring wells.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this report, please call me at(916)444-0123. j
Very truly yours,
BRO AND CALDWELL CONSULTANTS
a;
Ltrt-O j WYCl
I lUC:CC
Jay C.
