9
• b Halt-mask air-puntying respirators with organic vapor cartridges to be used based on
monitoring results
7 Ear plugs, depending on noise levels
The use of contact lenses is not permitted when working conditions warrant the use of
respirators Facial hair and accessory items shall not be worn in a manner that interferes with
the seal of the respirator facepiece directly against the skin All Yield staff will have at halt-mask
air purifying respirator with appropriate cartridges on site
ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING PLAN
I
The potential hazards identified in the hazard analysis portion of this SSHP determined the
need for initial and/or ongoing monitoring for assessment of exposure to the hazards as follows
Monitoring for organic vapors and flammables will be accomplished using a TLV Snifter
portable gas detector and a combustible gas meter, respectively It concentrations of 10 ppm or
greater above background are detected for total organic vapors, as measured in the working
breathing zone, then halt-mask respirators will be worn If total organic vapors are consistently
. detected at greater than 50 ppm to 100 ppm, then full-face respirators will be worn If
concentrations exceed 100 ppm, then work activities will stop and the level of protective
equipment will be reassessed It concentrations of 20 percent of the lower explosive limit are
detected for combustible gases, as measured at the borehole opening, then the dnll ng will be
stopped and the levels allowed to dissipate Measurements will be made at the borehole opening
Instruments will be calibrated prior to use for each day's activities
Heat stress (cold stress) will be monitored as described in the hazard analysis portion of this
SSHP
MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE REQUIREMENTS
Medical surveillance is conducted as a routine program for BC field staff which meets the
requirements of 29 CFR 1910 120 (f) There will not be any special medical tests or
examinations required for staff involved in this project
