y
"1
3
„a SECTION 3
SITE INVESTIGATION
J
i
1.
;r
SOM BORING AND SOIL SAMPLING PROCEDURES
` Three (3) soil borings were installed using 10-inch hollow-stem augers. Boring
locations were described in Section 2 and are shown in Figure 4. Soil borings were
designated as SB-01, SB-02, and SB-03, which correspond to monitoring wells MW-1,
-;. MW-2 and MW-3, respectively. The total depth of each boring was 25 feet below
'
' ground surface (bgs). Total depth was selected based on encountering
a groundwater at
r approximately 15 feet bgs in each well, which allowed construction of monitoring wells
with 10 feet of screened interval below and 5 feet of screened interval above the water
x table. `
During soil-boring operations, soil samples were collected at least every five feet in
ifi
the unsaturated zone with a split-spoon sampler. Representative portions of the soil
samples were split for head space OVA screening, iithologic description, and laboratory
e analysis. Soil sa!males were collected in brass tubes within the split-spoon sampler. The
ends of each tube were covred with Teflon tape and then capped with plastic caps. The
caps were sealed will: duct tape, at the recommendation of the Public Health Services
r representative.
During soil-boring operations, geological descriptions of the soil were made by an on-
site geologist, and soil-baring logs were constructed. These soil-boring Iogs (with
s monitoring well consuruction data)are displayed in Appendix B.
The most contaminated soil sample above the water table from each boring was
submitted for laboratory analysis. 1`hP most contaminated sample was determined by
field OVA analysis. For each sampling point, soil was preserved in glass jars filled
approximately 1/2 full, and the jar —nouth covered with aluminum foil and then capped.
3-1
a' 175-0/15 4/24193
